Registration

You are advised to register your material before showing it to any producer, broadcaster, investor, agent or manager. This advise is true for all creators and writers. It holds for most literary material and media works.

WHY SHOULD I REGISTER IT?

Registration assists creators and writers in establishing project completion date and the identity of their material for radio, television, film, video and interactive media.

Creators and writers need to keep in mind that registration serves to prove priority of ownership and that this cannot be achieved if the material is shown to a producer or proposed to a broadcaster prior to its registration. Showing ones literary work before registration is completely discouraged.

Registered work is not read by Pitchit and it's staff. In a court dispute, Pitchit will produce the material to evidence the creators claim or priority of ownership.

WHAT MATERIAL CAN I REGISTER?

Registration allows creators to register proposals, scripts, synopsis, treatments, outlines, lyrics, music scores, stage plays, novels, poems, drawings, commercials and written ideas intended for radio, television, film, video, dvd or interactive media platforms. Registration also allows all books and media works registration.

Pitchit only offers online registration and registration is not only limited to film makers, but open to all creators.

Note: Registration does not grant statutory protection. It simply gives evidence of the author's prior claim to authorship and establishes project completion date.

HOW LONG IS MY MATERIAL REGISTERED FOR?

Registration is valid for five (5) years and is renewable before the end of the five (5) year period. In registering, you also grant Pitchit permission to erase the literary records if and when the registration is not renewed before the end of the five (5) year period.

HOW MUCH DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR REGISTRATION?

Pitchit Members - Register your material for five (5) years for only $15.00 (+- R100) each. Members please sign on and register from your dashboard for the members only rate.

Non Members - Register your material for five (5) years for only $25.00 (+- R150.00) each.

All cash deposits carry an extra R15 charge to cover bank handling fees

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO REGISTER?

Registrations are fast and easy. The average registration takes five (5) minutes.

AFTER REGISTRATION

You will receive your registration number by email.

When sharing your work, state clearly on the title page that your material is registered with pitchit.co.za.

Type the registration number at the bottom of your cover page before printing. Make the title, registration number and your full name the footer of every page of your document.
